Preserve NH Healthy Kids program
The New Hampshire
Healthy Kids health insurance program is a national model public-private
partnership that has cut in half the percentage of uninsured children
in the state. Because Healthy Kids offers a mix of low-cost and free
programs, NH boasted the third-lowest percentage of uninsured kids in
the U.S. in 2005.
Healthy Kids has increased family health and well-being
by encouraging families to take advantage of preventive care, thus reducing
delays of needed care, reducing inappropriate and expensive use of the
emergency room, and helping kids stay healthy and in school.
The Children's Alliance believes that this hugely successful
program should be preserved, protected, and funded at a level that allows
it to reach out to and enroll every uninsured child in the state.
