KIDS COUNTKids Count New Hampshire

The Annie E. Casey Foundation released its annual Kids Count data report July 25. New Hampshire falls into second place after maintaining first place for the past four years. When it comes to child health and well-being, the 2007 Kids Count National Data book reflects concern for New Hampshire's children who live in poverty.  Based on 2005 data, 9% of NH's children live in poverty, compared to 6% in 2000. Roughly 28,000 NH children live in poverty (income below $19,806 for a family of two adults and two children in 2005).

This data link (CLIKS) allows for users to access state-specific inventories of data from local sources, such as health departments, human services agencies, and schools. We believe this can be a powerful new tool for New Hampshire's community leaders, policymakers, service providers, parents and others who want to take a closer look at the local factors that affect the lives of children and families. The content of this material is determined by the Children's Alliance and is an ongoing work in progress - with updates being added all the time.

Current issues

When most people think of "welfare", they do not leap immediately to thoughts of opportunity, hard work, and the American Dream.
