	The Priorities were introduced to New Hampshire Legislators during a lunch time event January 24, 2012 at the New Hampshire House Finance Committee room. Advocates from various organizations were selected to serve as Priority leaders through meetings of NH CAN Partners and Advisors in the Fall of 2010. 	Creating the Priorities for New Hampshire's Children Learn more about how NH CAN develops and supports the annual Priorities for New Hampshire's Children here. New Hampshire Child Advocacy Network Voting Process Throughout the summer, NH CAN partners are invited to submit action step proposals for the annual Priorities for New Hampshire's Children. Proposals are submitted to one of four NH CAN issue areas: Family Economic Security, Health and Wellness, Child Safety and Protection, and Education. In the fall, workgroups within each issue area are held to review the proposals. Partners and advisors then cast votes to determine which proposals will become part of the Priorities for New Hampshire's Children. The fall workgroup voting rules are below, along with the four criteria used to evaluate proposals. At the annual Children's Summit, partners and advisors are asked to cast votes in favor of the lead action step in each issue area. While all action steps will be included in the Priorities and receive full NH CAN support, determining a lead action step in each issue area allows us to prioritize our messaging and media outreach. Fall Workgroup Voting Rules • Each NH CAN partner organization may designate a single voting participant. • NH CAN Advisor agencies or organizations may designate a single voting participant; individual Advisors who do not represent an agency or organization (such as members of the NH General Court) may cast individual votes. • Each voting participant will cast three votes, with values of 1, 3, and 5. • Votes may not be used on a single issue; they must be placed on separate proposals or not at all. • Votes will be cast by secret ballot. • Voters may choose not to use all of their votes. • Each Action Step must receive at least 25% of the available votes. The top three will go on to become part of the Priorities. Summit Voting Rules • NH CAN partners and advisors whose membership is up-to-date may vote at the Summit. • Each CAN partner organization may designate a single voting participant. • Partners may choose a single action step in each issue area, or none at all. • Votes will be cast by secret ballot, and the results will be displayed visually. Four Criteria for Action Step Proposals • How many children are affected? • What is the severity of the impact? • What is our ability to create or influence change? • Is a NH CAN partner willing to take the lead?
